Emma Schultz

Emma attended UW-Green Bay and earned a B.S. in Human Biology with a Spanish minor. She is currently exploring the retina research world in the Hoon lab until fall of 2024. After which she will join the New England College of Optometry in Boston.

  • Favorite retina cell: Amacrine cells (specifically the AII) because I have spent so much time mapping the cell and finding its connections!
  • Thoughts about the retina: My first experience learning about the retina was in the clinical field, working with patients with different retinal diseases, so it is very interesting to learn more about the specific cells in the retina that relate to those diseases and why they happen. The retina is much more complex than I realized, and I’ve enjoyed learning about how all the cells work together to create vision.
  • Hobbies: Camping, reading, paddleboarding, crocheting, traveling, and going to concerts.
