Jay obtained his Bachelor of Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Thereafter he attended the Madison area technical college to specialize in electron microscopy. He also has a Master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Biotechnology. Jay enjoys using microscopy to address biomedical research projects.
- Favorite retinal cell: Rod Bipolar, the endlessly varied forms and interconnectedness of these cells is truly fascinating.
- Thoughts on the retina: As with most of our senses, we take for granted the enormous task of converting photonic input to electrical output. Though humans have devised methods for wavelength detection and photo-conversion, none are as complete or elegant as the thin layers of cells of the retina which work together to process our vibrant world.
- Hobbies: Canoeing, natural history, travel, live theater.
